JUNIOR SUMMER FUTSAL SEASON

Starting Friday October 1st 2010

The popular Junior Futsal Summer League is around the corner, with a record number of teams entered in four age groups. This season we will be running an U’9-10, U’10-11, U’12-13 and 14-16 league. All of our usual teams are back for more and we welcome back the Our Boys, Pegs United, Mighty Reds, Lads, Missing Links, Boca Boys, Skillz that Killz and many more. With close to 40 teams it promises to be the most exciting season yet.

The teams that are returning from their winter break will resume their Summer Futsal league matches on Friday the 1st of October. The teams that finished their Winter Season commitments on the 17th of September will resume their Summer Season matches on either the 1st or 8th of October. The teams that finished their Winter Season commitments on the 24th of September will resume their Summer Season matches on the 8th or 15th of October.

The Summer Season will continue through to December the 17th and then break for three weeks for Christmas. The Season will then recommence on Friday the 7th of January, with finals starting in February. The finals will finish by the end of February.

Strikers coaches will also be selecting players to represent the club in the new reformatted Winter Melbourne Futsal League in 2011.

The Strikers Futsal Club this summer will be offering a training program for interested teams or individual players. These training sessions will run every Saturday and will aim to improve the tactical, technical and fitness aspects of a Futsal player. We have been approached by many individual parents and teams that are keen on having specific Futsal training, especially during the Summer off season. We will be taking bookings for teams to train together and also provide times for individual players to train in a pleasant, fun and fulfilling environment.

JUNIOR SUMMER FUTSAL TRAINING PROGRAM

- Kids Futsal for 6-8 year olds (Introduction into Futsal with emphasis on learning fundamental motor skills and providing a fun learning environment)

- Individual personal coaching and group sessions (Players to train in small groups under expert coaching, with a specialised program throughout summer)

- Specific Team Training (For individual teams wanting to take their Futsal more seriously. Or perhaps the many players who wish to improve their tactics and fitness and prepare themselves for the Summer league competition)

The times available will be from 11am to late afternoon. Bookings will be made on a first entry basis. So it is important that players or teams interested in training get in contact with Robert Lakovski to see what package can be provided. True to the Strikers philosophy the costs of the Summer training package will be cost effective and offer great value for money. As the season approaches and we know the number of players and teams involved in the training program, we will be able to indicate the exact costs of the program.

The expected start date of the Summer Training program will be Saturday the 4th of September and Saturday the 11th of September.

The 7th Fair Play Cheap Thrills Futsal Soccer Competition – Saturday October 16th for the Etiko Trophy.

It’s happening once again… this time at a new venue – the historic Victoria Park in Abbotsford!

The 16 team, 5-a-side tournament raises funds, on and off pitch, for Happy Football Cambodia Australia and the Collingwood Allstars Football Program. The mixed teams come from all corners of the local community, making it a fun and active day for everyone!

With a bar, food and other activities also contributing to the fund raising, the day long competition boasts some great prizes for the winners and for the raffle.

Kicking off at midday, the teams are competing for the Etiko trophy, medals, a slab of Coopers and tickets to catch Melbourne Heart in action.

The Melbourne Heart Junior competition will take place on the inflatable pitch and will see 2 youngsters winning the chance to be a mascot at a Heart game.

Splitrock donate the water for the day, Rent The Rig the soundsystem, and local DJs their time and tunes to keep the day rolling along including: Chestwig, Ennio Styles, Chris Gill, Vince Peach, Manchild, Uber Lingua DJs, Paz, Bass Bin Laden, Cuzn Matt on the PBSFM stage!

We have 67 competitive primary prep to grade 6 teams on Saturday 9am-3pm.

16 Intermediate teams and 10 Social teams playing on Friday’s 5pm-9pm.

We also have Senior men playing 7pm-9pm Tuesday evenings.

U’11 STRIKERS – 1 REPORT – VIC CLUB FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The U’11 1 Strikers team ended their Victorian Club Futsal Championships with a third place finish, losing to the EFA by 4 goals to one in a tense semi-final. Going into the tournament as one of the favourites the Strikers got off to a shakey start going down to the tough Cobras 5:3 in a nervous first game. In another close game the Strikers overcame one of the other EFA teams by 5 goals to 3 and then finally found their rhythm beating the Strikers 3 team by nine goals. With that result the Strikers finished on top of their pool and were poised to meet the EFA in the semi-final. The Strikers dominated for long periods of the match but could not find their way past the EFA goal keeeper who was one of the stars of the tournament.

The Strikers will look to regroup in the MFL where they are sitting pretty at the top of the ladder. One hopes they can continue their form and bring home some silverware for the club. They are continuing the clubs fine tradition of having quality U’11 sides, with last year’s U’11 winning the MFL.

Mens Social Competition on Friday Nights

The Mens social competition is on Friday nights. If you would like to play, simply call Zoran on 0406 155 622. It’s social and it is good fun and all skill levels and ages are welcome.It is an opportunity for elite players to trial out for our Senior Mens MFL Team. The Mens MFL will be kicking off in September.

Pirates Womens Team at the National Club Championships

The Pirates 2010 Senior Womens MFL team will be travelling to Sydney in October, for the inaugural National Futsal Club Championships.

The Pirates are currently on top of the Womens MFL Ladder, with the squad being bolstered with the addition of two Cobras’ players. Edgard Vatcky, FFV Futsal Head Coach, will be joining the Pirates Coaching Staff in an effort to give the team every opportunity of success.

If you would like to come and watch the Womens MFL, then log onto the FFV website for the Fixtures List. All games are played at Cheltenham on alternate Saturday afternoons. There are plenty of games to watch, so come along and see some of the best Womens Futsal in Victoria.

The Strikers U’11 – 2 team are still celebrating after finishing runners up at the recent Victorian Club Futsal Championships in Bendigo. The boys had a resounding start beating the Pumas 10:3 in the first match, followed by a great win over one of the tournament favourites EFA Eagles 1 by 4 goals to 2. That meant that a draw in the last game would be enough to send them through to the semi-finals. And that was exactly how it panned out as the Strikers shared the points with Macedon Ranges 5 : 5.

Coach Joe Caruso then lead the squad in to the semi-final against the Cobras, and in a tense match the Strikers prevailed by 3 goals to 2. The boys played with plenty of pride and passion and deserved their Grand Final placing. They then played the EFA Eagles 1 again in the final in a repeat of their group game, but this time it was the Eagles who won out by 4 goals to 0. The goal keeper for the Eagles having a field day with a brilliant exhibition of goalkeeping.

Congratulations to all players for a wonderful performance at the championships.

U’11 STRIKERS 3 REPORT – VIC CLUB C’SHIPS

The U’11 Strikers 3 (Warriors) entered the U’11 division the youngest team of them all. Comprising of 9 and 10 year olds the boys took it to their older opponents matching it in every facet of the game. Plenty of enthusiasm and energy was on show with the Strikers 3 team quickly becoming one of the crowd favourites. In the first game they drew with a strong EFA two 3:3, and were unlucky not to take the three points. In the second game they took on the reputable Cobras, but once again the Strikers showed no fear giving them a huge fright, but ultimately going down 4:1. In the last group game they played the Strikers 1 team who were just a bit more classier, going down by nine goals. The coaching staff stressing to the boys what a fantastic achievement the boys had done, especially as they were much younger than their opponents.

The Strikers had one more match against the Macedon Ranges, losing a tense 4:3 semi-final for the Division B finals. The youngsters will now return to honing their skills on Friday nights, and prepare themselves for next years tournament.
