Fiji 4 Vanuatu 0 (OFC)
Fiji have put in their best defensive effort on day seven of the OFC Futsal Championship to beat Vanuatu 4-0
With 12 points, the hosts could take second place depending on New Zealand’s result against New Caledonia in the final match of the round-robin competition at Vodafone Arena this evening.
Coach Hussein Sahib says he will take the positives out of the tournament and start working towards the World Cup qualifiers next year.
“We’re pleased to finish with a win. Now we can start focussing on next year and get a bigger group of players so there’s more competition amongst them. There’s a lot of football players out there who I think could do very well at futsal so it’s a matter of convincing them to become part of the set up,” said Sahib.
Roy Krishna opened the scoring midway through the first period making no mistake from the 6m penalty spot.
The Waitakere United striker then turned provider setting up Kamal Hassan in the 16th minute for Fiji to go 2-0 up at the break.
In the second period it was end-to-end action with the crowd support split down the middle.
Vanuatu had opportunities aplenty with Edward Ben and Louis Dominique missing guilt-edged chances midway through the half.
Junior Malas and Don Mansale also went close but the Vanuatu side seemed to have left their shooting boots at home.
Fiji goalkeeper Josaia Ratu also did well to keep his side in it and when he want off injured late in the game, replacement Levi Saukuru did equally well.
As Vanuatu pushed forward they became increasingly susceptible to the counter and Kamal Hassan made them punish three minutes from time, grabbing his seventh goal of the championship.
His vice captain Petero Dauniseka then made it four to finish off on a high and become the only team to complete two shut outs.
Vanuatu coach Marcellino Barthelemy says it was a disappointing overall performance.
“We didn’t play very well and we missed a lot of goals. But thats’s the game. We still have a lot to learn.”

Solomon Islands 21 Tuvalu 2 (OFC)
An emphatic 21-2 victory over Tuvalu has seen the Solomon Islands claim the OFC Futsal Championship
Kurukuru sensation Elliot Ragomo, 19, put away seven goals – six of which came in the first period.
It is the third consecutive title for the Solomon Islands, who represented Oceania at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2008.
Coach Dickson Kadau says today’s results and the performances all week have confirmed they are on the right track.
“I feel like we’re improving all the time. We’ve shown we are top of Oceania for the third year in a row but that doesn’t mean I don’t have respect for other teams. If they want to win it enough they can do it too.”
Tuvalu had number one goalkeeper Siopepa Tailolo back between the sticks after missing the previous match with a hamstring injury, but even he couldn’t stop the scoring spree.
Toakai Puapua’s side did at least score two through Easter Tekafa and Jerome Funafuti but otherwise it was all one way traffic.
Jack Egeta got the scoring underway before Ragomo set the fans going with four in a row. He added two more before the half in between Micah Lea’alafa strikes, with Matthias Saru and George Stevenson also chiming in.
The Kurukuru boys picked up the pace again after the break as their quick rotations cause Tuvalu all sorts of problems.
In the end, eight Solomons players had added their name to the score sheet for an emphatic victory that almost matched the tournament record of 23-1 – a famous victory for the Futsalroos over Samoa back in 1996 when Australia was still part of OFC.
Despite the lop-sided scoreline, Puapua said it was still a valuable experience for his young side.
“Playing against the Solomon Islands is always good – you’re competing against the best team in the region. There is obviously a big difference but futsal is just in the very early stages of development in Tuvalu and we have only a few players to choose from,” said Puapua.
“But this tournament has been a learning curve for the players and the management. We will take a lot home with us.”
Next year the OFC tournament will act as the qualifying tournament for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012. The Kurukuru have set the benchmark for Oceania in this week’s tournament and will be hoping they can make it four in a row in 2011.

Match Day 7 Preview (OFC)
The final day of action in the OFC Futsal Championship kicks off today at Vodafone Arena in Suva
The Solomon Islands take on Tuvalu in the first match at 4:30pm local time before Fiji meet Vanuatu at 6:30pm and New Zealand take on New Caledonia at 8:30pm.
All matches will be streamed LIVE online via Oceaniafootball.com
Here’s a look at how the teams are looking ahead of the final round of matches:
Solomon Islands vs Tuvalu
This will be the biggest mismatch of the tournament with Tuvalu yet to pick up a point while the Solomon Islands have breezed past all five other teams. The Kurukuru are in devastating form having scored 38 goals and conceding only 14. With 10 to his name Micah Lea’alafa is in the running to pick up his second consecutive Golden Boot Award but Elliot Ragomo and Jack Wetney are hot on his heals with eight each. Despite having lost five games in a row, Tuvalu are relishing the opportunity to compete on a regional scale. Toakai Puapua’s men have shown plenty of spirit and skill to get on the scoresheet in all but one of their matches. They will hope to do so again tomorrow.
Fiji vs Vanuatu
This match is shaping up to be the battle for bronze as both teams sit equal on nine points, with the hosts having the better goal difference by just one. After suffering two straight losses, Fiji will be desperate to finish with a win in front of their home crowd and restore some pride. But Vanuatu were in top form on Friday beating Tahiti 4-2 with a standout performance from goalkeeper and captain on the day Daniel Mansale. All signs point to a tight match as both teams look to finish on a high.
New Zealand vs New Caledonia
This is another intriguing battle that could go either way. New Zealand still go in as strong favourites after four wins from five matches but New Caledonia’s tally of just three points hardly reflects the strength of Eric Michalak’s side. The Futsal Whites can ill-afford to get complacent against the likes of Cedrick Humuni who has proved a handful for opposition defences. Humuni, with eight goals so far, will hope he has his scoring boots on again to help his side secure an upset win. New Zealand meanwhile will be eager to retain their second place and cap off an impressive campaign.
Tahiti will have a bye today.

Tahiti 2 Vanuatu 4 (OFC)
Vanuatu have seen off a strong challenge from Tahiti this evening to win 4-2 and move to fourth on the table
It was the Tahitians who scored first through Meirii Si Man in the fifth minute but Vanuatu captain Louis Dominique equalised midway through the period with a powerful shot from the right wing.
Junior Malas made it 2-1 for Vanuatu just before the break, slotting the ball through the legs of Atanui Tetihia after a decisive breakaway.
Tahiti pushed for an equaliser in the second period but an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Daniel Mansale, who was captain on the day, kept Vanuatu in front.
At the other end, Nemani Roqara showed off his ball skills midway through the period to wrong-foot the keeper and give Vanuatu a two goal cushion.
But Tahiti forward Mana Faarahia pulled one back, setting up an exciting end to the match.
Vanuatu successfully absorbed the pressure and got one more in before the final whistle as Tahiti sent too many forward. Ben Hungai claiming the last goal to keep him in the running for Golden Boot with seven goals for the week.
Tahiti, who have the bye tomorrow, must settle for six points from their six matches to lie in fifth place. Vanuatu meanwhile could challenge for second or third spot with a big win over Fiji on the final day of matches tomorrow.
Brazil trip to cost players $30k (NSW)
$6500 each needed to be raised before the trip can happen

Round the world: Lismore Futsal players Damien Parker (20), Nick Baker (19), Kristy McCann (16), Shelby Parker (16), Elliott Black (16) and Jack Pearce (16) have the chance to learn more about the game and play in Brazil. Picture Jerad Williams
Six Lismore Futsal (indoor soccer) players may have the opportunity of a lifetime after being chosen for a trip to Brazil.
The problem is they need to raise more than $30,000 to get there for the planned mid-November trip.
Damien Parker, Shelby Parker, Nick Baker, Kristy McCann, Elliot Black and Jack Pearce have been scouted at regional and national tournaments and selected to take part in the Vikings Select Tour of Brazil.
The group will spend 16 days in the South American nation where they will visit the home town of soccer legend Pele and train in the state-of-the-art facility used by the five-time world champion Brazilian national team.
But first they need to raise the money – each needs $6500 to be on the trip.
So for now it’s heads down and bums up as the six Futsal hopefuls host barbecues, run raffles and knock on doors in search of donations.
But 16-year-old Shelby Parker knows it will all be worth it.
“Brazil is the home of Futsal,” Parker said.
“It’s an amazing chance for us to get over there and be around the Brazilians, play against them and be coached by their coaches.”
If you are in a position to help these locals reach their goal through donations of cash or prizes for a raffle, phone Kathalina Parker on 0412-544687.
