Allstars strike again (NSW)

Another huge signing for last seasons NSW Premier League Club Champions

Having already struck gold once this off season with the signing of young Futsal phenom from the A.C.T in Tommy Rogic the Inner West Allstars have continued their restructuring of their mens team with the impressive signing of former Futsalroo Luke Haydon.

Haydon an ever present member of the Queensland side has committed to playing for the Allstars in season 2010/11 and beyond.

Haydon who has over 35 international caps for his country and over 15 international goals has been away from the International stage for a couple years now and sees this as the perfect opportunity to reclaim the mantle as one of the Futsalroos most influential players.

“The competition in NSW is one I follow pretty closely mainly because I have many of the boys I represented Australia with playing in it.

When Vizza gave me a call I jumped at the chance to play. I’ve been away from the national team for a couple of years now and I want to reclaim my futsalroo jersey.

I know that the National team coach Steven Knight is stationed here in NSW and what better chance than this to get back into competitive action and impress”.

“Vizz spoke to me about Allstars and how successful the club were last season and their plans for this season and beyond and I couldn’t refuse, I’m really looking forward to play for the Allstars, it sounds like an exciting team and a great club” said Allstars newest recruit.

“When most of the team left I started thinking about players I wanted to play with, experienced players who know the game and have something to prove and one of the first names that came into my head was Lukey”.

I know he wants to get back into the Aussie side and when he committed to playing and coming here every week I was ecstatic. I can’t wait to start playing with him again”.

“We now have Luke and myself as experienced Futsalroos and Fogs and Tommy as the youthful ones and with the boys we already have I’m really looking forward to it. We are a team with lots to prove and to a lot of people but it should be a good season” said club Captain Adrian Vizzari

‘When I knew Luke wanted to play I was delighted, he is quick and he can rip players it’s something that not many players here in Australia have and I’m delighted to welcome him to the club.

You can tell when you speak to him he has that hunger back.

With Luke now signed that brings the end to our recruitment for this season, we brought in two Futsalroos in Luke and Tommy we also picked up ex Futsalroo in Issac Wadick who’s looking fantastic in training plus Robbie Maiorana and Ediz Alpkaya who are both NSW reps and youngsters Pat Pace and Robbie Greenway and the Youth boys Daniel Fogarty, Shayne Ardle and Aaron Cimitile. Everyone is really looking forward for the season to start” said Mens coach Carmine Bortone

Haydon played his first international in 2004 against Japan and scored on debut whilst representing Australia in the 2004 World Cup in Chinese Taipei .

Such was Haydons quality and superb form at that World Cup he was signed up by Brazilian Futsal powerhouse Carlo Barbosa soon after.

Quake ready for new season (NSW)

An update from Campbelltown Quake on their upcoming Premier league season

Progressive Club Campbelltown City Quake has had a successful off season and has completed all rosters in readiness for the upcoming Premier League Season.

Defending Champions in the Open Men’s competition, it has been a particularly fruitful winter, with the return to the club of some valuable players. Futsalroo Simon Keith returns to his Club after a season in the NSW Super League. Along with Simmo is the return of Miles Downie after a stint in Europe. The two Futsalroos will add a tonne of experience to this side already boasting current Futsalroos Dean “Bully” Lockhart and Ian “Macca” McAndrew. Completing the roster are former Futsalroos Tuan Cao and Gavin O’Brien, Australian representative Shane Soutter, Australian train-on squad member Mark Symington and last season’s Premier League MVP Danny Martinez. Rounding off the squad is the return of GK Jon Azzopardi and former Quake players Sahand Jahani and James Pearce. Adding experience is the signing of former NSW rep Shane Hammond who returns after a serious knee injury. With this squad, Quake boasts 8 players who have played for our Youth team or younger, further highlighting our alibility to produce and promote from within. Coach Ralph Capasso and the squad are already busy at work preparing for what will no doubt be the toughest season yet.

Our Open Women are the defending Premiers and grand finalists and have been successful in retaining their entire squad from last season. The only addition from outside of Quake was goalkeeper Mel McCauley who comes from Fusion adding to the Keeping talent of Ash Brown. Young “veterans’ Leesa Thomson, Claire Walsh and Stephanie Haim will once again lead from the front as youngsters Linda Dudek and Laura Donnelly back up from a successful last season. Sarah Semaan, Caitlin “Pommy” Jarvie and Lauren Ralston complete this very talented squad. Zoeie Redman is the only member of the team stepping up from last year’s 16 Girls and plays her first season of Senior Futsal. Coach Tom Thomson is keen for the season to begin and agrees that this will be the closest and most exciting competition in its short history.

New Zealand 7 Tuvalu 1 (OFC)

New Zealand have beaten Tuvalu 7-1 on day seven of the OFC Futsal Championship to leapfrog Fiji into second spot in the standings

Miro Major led the way with a brace, including one from the 6m penalty spot, while five others had a share of the remaining goals.

With four wins from five matches the Futsal Whites move to 12 points, three behind the Solomon Islands who went into the tournament as overwhelming favourites.

It was a slow start for the Kiwis as Tuvalu held them out for the best part of the first period but a devastating spell of five goals in three minutes turned the game on its head.

The first came through youngster Dylan Manickum who did well to beat his marker down the right and hit low across the goalkeeper.

Captain Marvin Eakins was then given time and space on the edge of the ‘D’ and picked his spot perfectly before Said Soleimanpour added one from close range moments later.

In the 20th minute, Major made up for an earlier penalty miss – this time smashing the ball home from the 6metre mark before grabbing New Zealand’s fifth on the stroke of half time.

The second period again started slowly with Tuvalu setting up well defensively. Toakai Puapua’s side should have had the first goal inside five minutes but Ala Avia couldn’t convert with an open goal at his mercy.

New Zealand’s top goal scorer Micky Malivuk had one of his easiest tap-ins of the tournament after Eakins set up in the 33rd minute.

Two minutes later Tuvalu finally had something to show for their efforts with Jerome Funafuti making a nice steal and shooting low past Elias Billeh.

Lucas Da Silva, Khalid Razouk and Braydon Lissington all tried their luck from the 10m penalty spot in the dying stages but only the 18-year-old Lissington managed to convert.

New Zealand will play New Caledonia in the final match of the tournament tomorrow while Tuvalu have the daunting task of playing the unbeaten Kurukuru.

Fiji 3 Solomon Islands 7 (OFC)

Solomon Islands have all but secured their third consecutive OFC Futsal Championship today after a 7-3 win over hosts Fiji

The Kurukuru remain the only unbeaten side in the round-robin competition and a win against bottom ranked Tuvalu tomorrow will seal the title.

What is more uncertain is who will win the Golden Boot Award after Jack Wetney and Elliot Ragomo helped their chances with two goals each today. Teammate Micah Lea’alafa still leads the race with New Caledonian Cedrick Humuni and New Zealand’s Micky Malivuk close behind.

Fiji meanwhile are out of the running and may also relinquish their second place if the Futsal Whites win today.

For the fourth match in a row, Fiji were first to concede letting Wetney in after just a minute.

The home side equalised on four minutes when Petero Dauniska squeezed the ball through on his second attempt but the Solomons hit straight back with Wetney’s long range effort taking a slight deflection.

Fiji enjoyed plenty of possession but couldn’t convert – their best chance coming midway through the period with a 3 v 1 opportunity but scrambling defence again kept them out.

Kurukuru defender Jeffery Bule grabbed his second goal of the tournament in the 13th minute with the assist coming from Lenson Bisili.

Dickson Kadau’s side were then buoyed going into the break after Ragomo put one in with three seconds left on the clock.

Fijian heads went down again in the 24th minute when Ragomo grabbed his second after another weaving run.

The life went out of the game but the Solomon Islands fans stayed strong in voice with plenty of chanting for their Kurukuru boys.

Aiesh Narayan and Dauniseka scored for the home side before the finish with two goals in between from Coleman Makau and Bisili to make it 7 for the Solomons.

The seventh and final day of action in Suva will see Fiji take on Vanuatu while the Kurukuru will look to finish with a flourish against Tuvalu.

Match Day 6 Preview (OFC)

The sixth day of action in the OFC Futsal Championship

The Solomon Islands take on Fiji in the first match at 4:30pm local time before New Zealand meet Tuvalu at 6:30pm and Tahiti clash with Vanuatu at 8:30pm.

All matches will be streamed LIVE online via Oceaniafootball.com

Here’s a look at how the teams are looking ahead of the sixth round of matches:

Fiji vs Solomon Islands

This is a must win match for the hosts after their disappointing 6-4 loss to New Zealand on day five. But if last year’s results are anything to go, the Solomon Islands should come out on top after they beat Fiji 5-3 and 8-1 in 2009. Hussein Sahib’s charges have gone a goal down in three out of their four matches but can ill afford to against the likes of Elliot Ragomo, Jack Wetney and Micah Lea’alafa who are all in fine form. The Solomon Islands can all but wrap up the championship this afternoon with just Tuvalu left to play on day seven. It will take a heroic performance from Fiji – and perhaps some Black Friday bad luck for the Kurukuru – if the hosts are to win this one.

New Zealand vs Tuvalu

Tuvalu go in as clear underdogs having suffered their fourth straight defeat against New Caledonia yesterday. In that match, goalkeeper Siopepa Tailolo chose to play out on court but he will need to be back between the sticks if Tuvalu are to have any chance. New Zealand meanwhile are full of confidence after three consecutive wins and will look for Micky Malivuk to once again put away the goals. The Croatian-born forward is in the running for the golden boot with seven to his name while inspirational captain Marvin Eakins has led the defense with stand out performances all week. Coach Matt Chandler may also use this match as an opportunity to give his young guns a hit out.

Tahiti vs. Vanuatu

This is likely to be the closest match up of the day as Tahiti and Vanuatu sit mid-table with six points. Both teams are coming off the back of two straight losses to New Zealand and the Solomon Islands but Vanuatu have the fresh legs after a bye yesterday. Captain Louis Dominque and Terry Quare have been the standouts for Vanuatu while Ben Hungai has led the scoring with six of the team’s 17 goals. But coach Marcellino Barthelemy will be without key player Lui Sifas who was cautioned in both of their last two outings. Tahiti have had arguably the best defensive structure of the seven participating teams and will look to back that up with a strong attacking game today. Loic Oldham has been outstanding and will once again lead from the front.

New Caledonia will have a bye today.

Upcoming matches:
14/8/10 4:30pm Solomon Islands vs Tuvalu
14/8/10 6:30pm Fiji vs Vanuatu
14/8/10 8:30pm New Zealand vs New Caledonia

F4A Website Update

We are still working through the backlog of Futsal news…

Whilst we were offline recently, there have been a ton of Futsal news articles. As you can see the OFC Championship has been particularly active, and at the time of writing this we are now up to date for that tournament.

To everyone else who has submitted links, articles and updates recently, we will try to get through them all tomorrow and by the end of the weekend we should be completely caught up.

New Caledonia 9 Tuvalu 2 (OFC)

New Caledonia have recorded their first win of the OFC Futsal Championship beating Tuvalu 9-2

Cedrick Humuni stole the show with four classy goals to take his tournament tally to eight – just two behind Kurukuru forward Micah Lea’alafa, who was top goal scorer last year.

Despite four consecutive losses, New Caledonia have shown signs of promise throughout the week and were unlucky not to pick up points against the likes of Vanuatu and Tahiti.

But Erik Michalak’s side finally got what they deserved turning performance into points as Tuvalu struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.

Humuni, who has been impressive throughout the tournament, opened the scoring just two minutes into the match with a nicely timed run into their area and cool finish.

Captain Loic Caunes doubled their lead in the sixth minute but Tuvalu hit straight back through Laupula Huehue who got the faintest of touches to deflect a long range shot goalward.

New Caledonia had two more before the break, both from Humuni, and continued their scoring spree in the second period. Eventually Louis Waishitine, Yoann Waikedre and Caryl Thepinier had added their names to the score sheet.

An unfortunate New Caledonia own goal in the dying stages gave Tuvalu some consolation but Toakai Puapua’s side are still without a point from four matches.

Tuvalu face another tough challenge against New Zealand tomorrow while New Caledonia have a rest day.

Tahiti 2 Solomon Islands 6 (OFC)

The Solomon Islands were in a confident mood at the OFC Futsal Championship today playing with a ‘fifth attacker’ for much of the game against Tahiti

Dickson Kadau’s side kept up their winning ways with a 6-2 scoreline to extend their lead at the top of the table after contenders Fiji dropped points against New Zealand.

With the introduction of goalkeeper David Lafai in the second period, the Kurukuru experimented with the ‘power play’ of futsal where Lafai stepped into the attack acting as a pivot on the halfway line.

Solomon Islands looked comfortable from the outset with captain Elliot Ragomo hitting the post in the first minute of the game.

The 19-year-old hit the upright again soon after before putting one away in the 9th minute.

But the Tahitians hit back through Meiarii Si Man after a 12th minute breakaway. That goal seemed to spring life into the Kurukuru team as they scored two more before the break, including a stunning back heal from Lenson Bisili.

The Solomons tried their luck with a five-man attack in the second period but Tahiti did well to contain them as Jack Wetney was the only one to break through inside the half-hour mark.

Loic Oldham brought the deficit back to one when he scored in the 28th minute before Micah Lea’alafa and Jeffery Bule took the score out to six, making it another impressive outing for the Kurukuru.
